One of the problems associated with heart failure is the inability to pump blood. VADs are mechanical pumps that receive blood from the left ventricle and deliver it to the aorta, providing the strength necessary to maintain proper blood flow throughout the body. VAD can relieve symptoms, including breathlessness and fatigue, and can offer temporary support for patients waiting for transplants and may provide an alternative to medication in long-term situations.
